The makers behind Modern Cooking are individuals. Each works from their own forge, workshop, or studio — usually solo, sometimes in small partnerships. Most produce only a handful of pieces a month.

Curatorial focus is on three things: geometry and grind, steel and heat treatment, and the maker's own voice as it shows up in handle work, finish, and proportion. Country of origin doesn't matter; intention does. Whether a maker forges in Sakai, Vienna, Sydney, or Kyrkhult, the question is the same — does this piece reward use.

The directory at /pages/makers lists every active individual maker in the Collectors Selection.
