Benjamin Kamon is an Austrian bladesmith and the founder of Kamon Knives, known for producing some of the most distinctive high-performance kitchen knives in the contemporary maker landscape. Introduced to knives at an early age through his father’s collection, Kamon developed a deep appreciation not only for the tool itself but for the discipline of maintaining and understanding the edge. This early foundation carried through into his professional path, where he trained as both a machinist and blacksmith, spending years refining his skills at the forge before committing fully to knife making. Since 2019, he has worked independently, crafting knives that sit at the intersection of engineering precision and expressive design.

Kamon’s work is defined by a rare balance of technical control and creative identity. His blades are forged from high-performance carbon steels, treated and ground with an obsessive focus on geometry, heat treatment, and cutting efficiency. Techniques such as water-cooled grinding and carefully controlled distal tapering allow him to achieve exceptional thinness and edge stability, resulting in knives that feel both precise and powerful in use. At the same time, his background in machining is evident in the construction of his signature removable “takedown” handles—an industrial design language that draws from hunting knives while being reinterpreted for the kitchen.

What ultimately sets Kamon apart is his ability to merge performance-driven craftsmanship with a strong, recognisable aesthetic. Each knife is a highly individual piece, yet consistently engineered to deliver elite cutting performance. Produced in very limited quantities, his work is sought after by both professional chefs and collectors who value tools that push the boundaries of what a kitchen knife can be—functional objects that carry the clarity of purpose of a tool, and the presence of a finished work.
