Sujihiki 305mm Honyaki 135Cr3 Rosewood & Imitation Ivory
Sujihiki 305mm Honyaki 135Cr3 Rosewood & Imitation Ivory
The reputation of French blacksmith Yanick Puig precedes him and if you have ever held his work in your hands, you will know that you have held the work of a true artist. Yanick is the kind of fanatical perfectionist that custom builds tools and machines, painting outside the lines to achieve the quality standards he desires, refusing to let the limitations of his tooling stand in the way of perfection.
Well known for outstanding fit and finish, beautiful hazy Kasumi polish and incredible cutting performance and geometry. Occasionally, Yanick also produces Honyaki knives.
Honyaki are forged from high carbon steels using a variable hardening technique that involves the application of a special clay to the spine of the blade before it is quenched. This process leaves the blade with a soft, resilient spine, a beautiful hamon (or temper line), and hard, sharp edge. Extremely challenging to produce at the best of times, some well respected blacksmiths lose up to 60% of their work, making Honyaki some of the most sort after and treasured knives amongst enthusiasts and collectors.
This beautiful piece features a 305mm blade forged in 135Cr3 carbon steel. The hamon is a beautiful wave like pattern that streaks along the top half of the blade. Finished with a satin polish the blade has an elegant soft look to it with incredibly fine alloy banding revealed in the steels surface.
The handle is a symmetrical octagonal shape in Santos Rosewood with Imitation Ivory spacer. The subtle elegance of this piece is only exceeded by the extreme cutting performance of the blade.
A stunning piece of functional art by Yanick Puig.
