Fujin Series
Yu Kurosaki is often inspired by nature with many of his knife designs taking cues from the elements. The Fujin series, like the Shizuku and Raijin series, features a tsuchimi finish which is both beautiful and functional. The Fujin series was inspired by the Japanese god of wind “Fujin” and we find the striking hammer pattern captures the volatility of the wind perfectly. The Fujin blades also feature a dark Kurouchi or Blacksmith finish completing the emotive god like design.
Tsuchimi or hammer finish patterns on the face of the blade are both beautiful and functional, aiding in food release and helping the blade to slice, with ease, and without damaging produce. The hammered pattern on the Fujin series might appear rough, but don’t be concerned it is highly polished and smooth. Completing the design is Kurosaki Sans signature chiseled kanji.
The Fujin series is hand forged in Aogami Super (AS) steel, which allows for a superior edge retention and relatively easy maintenance. Like all Kurosaki Knives the blade super thin and light weight. The AS steel core in this series of knives is hardened to HRC 64+ and is clad in a softer stainless steel. The knives are highly polished and the fit and finish is sensational.
The Fujin series of knives come in a variety of Japanese Wa handles, which we select in consultation with Kurosaki San. The handles are an octagonal ambidextrous shape and fit nicely in the hand.
A lot of passion, experience and care has gone into this top tier series from Kurosaki Knives. We highly recommend these knives and can assure you that they are a pleasure to use.
Kurosaki Knives
Yu Kurosaki began his blacksmithing apprenticeship in 2002 with second generation, master blacksmith Hiroshi Kato. Over 10 years later he is considered one of Japan’s youngest master blacksmiths and has established his own brand, Kurosaki Knives.
Based in the Takefu Knife village of Echizen Japan, Yu Kurosaki is the youngest blacksmith to be granted the Master Nokaji title and to become a senior teacher.
Kurosaki knives have a unique style, are typically very thin and light weight and a pleasure to use. The knives produced by Kurosaki Knives are all hand forged and precision sharpened. Steels used at Kurosaki Knives include some of the best quality steel used in the kitchen knife industry including SG2 (R2), VG10 Super Steel, Aogami Super and more recently Cobalt Special.
Yu Kurosaki is clearly a passionate, master craftsman and we believe his products speak for themselves. Try them for yourself, we are confident you will agree.
