Sakai Takayuki – Togashi Kenji

Takayuki Knives have over 600-years of tradition and history to support their reputation as a leading artisan knife producer. Like the Echizen Masters, Sakai Takayuki is a collective of highly skilled Master Blacksmiths, including Honyaki specialists like Togashi Kenji.

Togashi Kenji is a highly experienced blacksmith, famous for his traditional honyaki construction technique. His knives use a mono steel construction which is then differentially hardened. This means the edge is harder than the spine. The wave line, or hamon, seen on the blade face is an indication that the blade has been hardened in this way. Honyaki knives are some of the most challenging knives to forge.
