Timo Verschuren

Timo Verschuren, a passionate knifemaker from Maastricht, Netherlands, began his journey into the craft at the remarkably young age of 11. His fascination with knifemaking was sparked during a family holiday in France, where he witnessed a blacksmithing demonstration that captivated his imagination. Shortly afterward, he purchased his first Opinel knife, marking the beginning of an enduring relationship with blades. Determined to learn and create on his own, Timo set out to build his skills and tools from scratch. From a wooden homemade belt grinder to a railroad anvil, he steadily equipped his workshop and, by the age of 13, sold his first knife. At 15, his interest turned toward crafting kitchen knives, drawn by their delicate design and the attention to detail required to perfect them. For Timo, the true beauty of a knife lies in its functionality and longevity, which he strives to achieve in every blade he crafts.

As Timo's dedication and expertise grew, so did his ambitions. By the age of 17, he reinvested every penny earned back into his craft, purchasing his first power hammer while still in high school. This milestone allowed him to explore advanced forging techniques, including creating intricate damascus patterns and san mai combinations, pushing the limits of his creativity and precision. By 18, Timo had turned his passion into a full-time career, crafting bespoke culinary knives and collaborating with some of the biggest names in the industry. His knives are celebrated for their thin edges, refined geometries, and pronounced distal tapers—features that make them a joy to use and a testament to his philosophy of function-first craftsmanship. Despite his growing recognition, Timo remains committed to creating knives that are both elegant and accessible.

Timo’s approach is rooted in simplicity, efficiency, and affordability. He strives to make knives that are not only built to last a lifetime but are also approachable for chefs at all levels. Every design is user-focused, with a timeless aesthetic that balances elegance and practicality. Whether forged from high-performance carbon alloys or adorned with unique patterns, each knife reflects Timo's dedication to quality and innovation. Today, working from his studio in Maastricht, Timo continues to refine his craft, combining traditional techniques with modern efficiency to deliver tools that are as beautiful as they are functional.

We are proud to be able to offer Timo's work and especially honoured to collaborate with him on our very own MCX design series

This remarkable knife is the result of a creative collaboration between Timo Verschuren of Hardent Knives and the MCX design studio. Forged in Timo’s studio in Maastricht, Netherlands, the knife represents a harmonious blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern design aesthetics. Inspired by the highly regarded Masamoto KS, the blade profile retains the elegance of its Japanese counterpart while introducing unique modifications. Featuring an aggressive distal taper and finely crafted convex bevels, the geometry delivers exceptional performance on the cutting board. The slightly taller blade height enhances versatility without sacrificing agility, making it a nimble yet powerful tool.

Constructed from 1.2419 German tungsten alloyed carbon steel, the blade is engineered for premium performance.
