In every detail of this knife Skye demonstrates a broad variety of impressive skills. From the clean, even high-performance convex grind and detail work around the riccaso to the incredible fit and finish of the octagonal frame handle. Each element has been perfectly executed.
Hand sanded satin finish stainless steel envelops the Vtoku2 carbon steel core with its pitch black, coffee etched forced patina. A subtle nashiji texture around the riccaso completes the finish on the blade. Looking to the grind the knife features a slight distal taper on the spine, which averages at around 2.5mm. Ground convex and with a razor-sharp edge the knife will perform incredibly well. The profile is very classic and clearly inspired by its Japanese origins.
An air gapped seal joins the tang with the handle demonstrating once more Skye’s skill as a craftsman. The handle itself is a frame construction, octagonal, hidden tang design. Made up of stabilised Cottonwood, white G10, stabilised Hawaiian Mango, and African Blackwood the result is a unique and beautiful masterclass in carpentry and joinery.
Overall a classy piece of work from this young New Zealander, clearly a rising star!
